Description:
The Iligan National Writers Workshop (INWW) opened in 1994, the third oldest in the country and it has since had 406 writing fellows in its workshop. The four other national writers workshops in the country are Silliman University, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, and De La Salle University/University of St. La Salle.

It is the only national writers workshop in Mindanao managed by Mindanawons. It accepts works in the various languages. Apart from works in English, in Filipino and in Cebuano and its variants, it accepts works in Tagalog, Bicol, Hiligaynon, Waray, Samareno, Tausug, Meranaw, Maguindanao, Binukid, and in Chabacano.

The INWW is the first workshop to open the workshop with a keynote lecture by the country's distinguished writers or from its roster of alumni. Four National Artists for Literature have given keynote lectures to the workshop: Bienvenido Lumbera (also a Ramon Magsaysay awardee for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts), Cirilo F. Bautista, Virgilio Almario and this year, F. Sionil Jose (also a Ramon Magsaysay awardee for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts).

It is the the first to publish its Proceedings each year and the first to establish an equitable distribution of writing fellows across the country.
Writing fellows for Drama sign a contract for the works they submit to the workshop to be staged by the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø-IIT Resident Theater Company, Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG). Playwrights retain copyright of their works.

The INWW's sponsors include the Ricardo Jorge S. Caluen Bursary for an Iliganon writer, the Manuel E. Buenafe Writing Fellowship for a Moro or Lumad writing fellow, the Boy Abunda Writing Fellowship in Waray or Samareno and the annual Jimmy Y. Balacuit Literary Awards.

It is the first national workshop of its kind to accept international writing fellows --- four writing fellows from Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and India will be joining the 27th INWW in the first of what is hoped to be many such collaborations with the rest of the writing world.

The INWW is funded by the National Commission for Culture & Arts and its host, the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø-IIT.

This year the workshop will have as Keynote Speaker: National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose.
