The Institute’s yearly celebration of the arts is stipulated in Presidential Proclamation No. 683, s. 1991. With the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ theme Alab Sining, Alay Sigla, we retained the Alampat branding /image as a representation of creative expressions, originating from life source, pulsating with rhythmic patterns of time and space, and forming culture and arts kaleidoscopes. Since the national theme echoes the advocacy that encapsulates alab and sigla in this pandemic time, it also accentuates the Center’s mandate of collaborative projects (one of which is the Gabi ng Sining) with the Institute’s Residential Cultural Groups (RCGs) and interdisciplinary engagements with the academe, national institutions on culture, arts, museums, organizations with MOAs, and other linkages and networks. The kick-off event was the hosting of the monthly GRITalks of the Gender and Development Resource Center on February 04, 2021, with Asst Prof. Ma. Rosalie A. Zerrudo, College of Fine Arts, University of San Agustin, Iloilo City. The activities for the National Arts Month also highlight the book launch of Dr. Steven Patrick C. Fernandez, the founding director of the Center for Culture and the Arts and the Integrated Performing Arts Guild, IPAG’s Story, and premiere of EA, the documentary of KALILANG’s onor and trainor, Bae Caironesa Dimatanday, the launch of ECHOES’ “Awit ng Agila”, KALIMULAN’s webinar on “Dances and Talks” with Asst. Prof. Monica Fides Amada W. Santos, Department of Anthropology, University of the Philippines, the launch of 25th INWW Proceedings and Art Forum (Talks on Interconnectivity and Transnationalism, in two parts) by Dr. Christine F. Godinez – Ortega, founder & Board Chair, the Mindanao Creative and Cultural Workers Group, Inc. (MCWWG), and co-founder & Board chair, the Mindanao Creative Workers Group (MCWG). The penultimate event of the 3rd Alampat is a webinar on “Women, Arts and Textiles” with Asst. Prof. Carlito C. Amalla, De La Salle – College of St. Benilde School of Design and Arts, Manila. With the Art Forum (Part 2) as finale, the National Arts Month comes in full circle with the celebration of Women in March. |
