| Description: |
This event is organized by graduate students enrolled in PHYS 398 (W3) from Department of Physics that invites speaker Nay San Lin from Tokyo University Science, Japan to talk about his research with the title of Antioxidant Potency of Asian Originated Biomaterials in DNA-wrapped Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes. Single Walled Nanotubes are graphene sheets which are rolled into cylindrical tubes by arranging hexagonal carbon rings by two chiral indexes (n,m). This study used probe type-sonication to wrapped dsDNA to single walled carbon nanotubes and then coconut water were added as antioxidant. Antioxidant slows down the damage of a substance caused by oxidation by means of reduction in many cases. UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed the antioxidant ability of both biomaterials by revealing two peaks (6,5) and (7,5). Moreover, AFM images of dsDNA-SWNT complexes were clearly seen even after coconut water solution was added. |
