Graduate Physics Seminar on “Nanostructure Characterization using SEM and XRD”

When: Monday, March 07, 2022 05:00 PM-06:30 PM
Where:

Zoom Meeting

Description:

This event is initiated and organized by the physics graduate students enrolled in Phys398 under the supervision of Prof. Rosario L. Reserva. It aims to harness the skills of the graduate students in hosting and organizing scientific forums and
seminars as well as gain more knowledge in the subject matter by inviting experts from various disciplines.

Short background of topic for presentation:

“Nanostructure Characterization using SEM and XRD”

Nanomaterial characterization is of paramount importance as far as material fabrication and synthesis is concerned. Among myriad set of the parameters need to be checked, surface morphology and crystallinity, are just some of the
important factors worthy to be investigated. There has been so many protocols for such characterization analysis, which includes Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) imaging for the surface morphology and X-ray Diffraction
Crystallography (XRD) for crystallographic structure evaluation. This talk will focus on the theory of operation and interpretations of SEM and XRD analyses for nanomaterial characterization.
